The Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015

The Assisted Decision Making (Capacity) Act commenced on April 26th 2023. This Act recognises that all adults have the right to play an active role in decisions that affect them. The Act provides a legal framework to support decision making for those adults who require such support. The Act will also assist with obligations contained in the European Convention on Human Rights and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Our work is person centred with all adults supported and will continue to be so and this new legislation will be an additional support.  With the implementation of the act we be learning together how it can better support people who receive services.

On the 1st June 2023, a national information webinar was facilitated by Aine Flynn and Patsy Fitzsimmons from the DSS office.
